The Road to One Hundred Spiritleaf Stores and Counting
Harnessing the collective energy from all over Canada.
One Hundred Spiritleaf Stores and Counting
The thought that cannabis could be legalized here in Canada, back in the day, inspired an idea. A little idea for a simple vape pen, which quickly developed into something much bigger.
Since the beginning, it has always been Spiritleaf’s top priority to be accepted and embraced by both cannabis consumers and local communities alike. And now, we are overjoyed to share that we have opened 100 Spiritleaf retail locations from coast to coast. Some other well-known businesses in Canada have also reached a similar milestone including companies such as Cobs Bread, Orange Theory Fitness, Montana’s BBQ & Bar and more.
We’re across Canada but just down the street.
Milestones are required to grow a successful brand, ultimately creating jobs and helping communities all across Canada flourish. Our journey started back in March of 2017 when Inner Spirit Holdings was first created, which then became a public company the following year. Another critical steppingstone was in June of 2017 when Spiritleaf became the first cannabis company to be granted membership by the Canadian Franchise Association.
Spiritleaf Highlights of 2018:
That June, Inner Spirit Holdings Ltd. proudly announced their support of the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund (DWF) via a five-year charitable commitment. In September, Spiritleaf then announced that it had made a strategic investment in High Times Holdings Corp. (“High Times”). The first Spiritleaf store to open was our franchise location in Brooks, Alberta back in November of 2018. Later that month, we were able to successfully open our first location in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. From there, we have continued to open more locations establishing ourselves as the store next door.
Highlights of 2019:
Back in April of 2019, Spiritleaf opened its first location in the province of Ontario, in the city of Kingston. Then, in June of 2019, our partners in British Columbia opened the first Spiritleaf location in BC in the town of Castlegar. That following August, our flagship location was then opened in the city of Calgary and then on the west coast, in Maple Ridge. Another important first includes the launch of our E-commerce site, for Saskatchewan consumers in November 2019. We then launched The Spiritleaf Collective in December. Our consumer benefits program, which has grown into a community with over 300K members.
Highlights of 2020:
Last year brought many more important milestones. To help reduce some of the waste created by the industry, partially due to the current regulations, we introduced a spring campaign called From Plastic to Fantastic, with a focus on long-term sustainability and inspired by our love for mother nature. In April, we introduced our online marketplace, Select & Collect (powered by Dutchie) which allows guests to place an order for pickup.
Spiritleaf then partnered with Atlantic Cultivation to open several locations in Canada’s most easterly province of Newfoundland. Staring with a location in the capital city of St. John’s (our 50th store and farthest east), in June of 2020, now there are nearly five locations open across the province for locals and visitors to explore.
The summer of 2020 was dedicated to the guests in our stores and members of The Collective, as we launched the first annual Spirit Bus Tour. This is a campaign designed to reward our loyal guests and help increase sales at each of our locations. Last October, the Spiritleaf marketing department was pleased to receive a MarCom Award for ‘Strategic Communications and Marketing,’ for this particular campaign. Be sure to catch the ride this summer, click here for more!
Spiritleaf was both pleased and honoured to be awarded the Franchisees’ Choice Designation,’ in 2020 and 2021 from The Canadian Franchise Association. In November, Spiritleaf was selected as a winner in the ‘Cannabis Store category of the 2020-2021 Calgary Herald Reader’s Choice Awards. The Collective has also been named a gold winner for the 2021 Hermes Creative Awards. We are also grateful for the opportunity to be a supporting partner of The Gathering for the past few years, an experience that has been invaluable to our brand development.
Highlights of 2021:
In early June of 2021, we were excited to finally be opening in the city of Winnipeg and our first Spiritleaf location in the province of Manitoba, spreading peace, love and harmony as we continue to expand. As we open the doors of our hundredth store in Imperial Centre, Brampton, we must pause to express our genuine gratitude to the individuals behind the Spiritleaf brand and each guest who has supported us along the way. It’s a momentous occasion which we celebrate with along you, thanks for blazing the trail with us!
Just think — 100 stores opened! Operating in 60 cities and 6 provinces. And this year serving almost 3 million guests just like you.
Our stores offer an impressive selection of products, knowledgeable staff, and a welcoming and comfortable environment. Visit a Spiritleaf location near you, get store details here. *Must be of legal age.
