A Victorian-era prohibitionist is credited for naming the community as a result of an odd exchange with locals. Their economy is currently supported by companies such as Pickwick Books, Red Sky Design and Stryker Corporation, a Fortune 500 company. This rapidly expanding neighbourhood has plans for future housing developments and major infrastructure projects. Many historical buildings are still present including the American Hotel, considered to one of the oldest hotels in Ontario. There are many natural attractions found along Grindstone Creek including Smokey Hollow Falls, Barnes’ Falls and Great Falls, which is featured on several local postcards. With plenty of independently owned shops, boutiques, restaurants and cafes to explore. Here, locals and residents can enjoy annual events like Oh Canada! Ribfest and music festival. There are several well-known hockey players, entertainers and a highly decorated WW1 Veteran who call the area home.
